[comp.sys.mac.hardware] 4Mbyte RAM limit in 030-based accelerators for SE ?

cho@aber-cs.UUCP (C.H. Orgill) (07/04/90)

I have been looking at the Mac Accelerator market for SE's. I fairly
rapidly converged on the Gemini 030/25 board (i.e. 25MHz 68030 +
68882). I was told that this board only allows 4Mbytes of DRAM to be
added, as the SE firmware limit is not avoided by adding the
accelerator.

This sounds completely half-brained to me and I am disinclined to
believe it ! Can anyone explain ? Will I have to go for the vanilla
Apple SE/30 upgrade to get at sensible amounts of DRAM ? (the target
application will be Mathematica with a local kernel, hence the need
for oodles of memory, 5 Mbytes would be OK)

Anyone care to suggest their 'best' accelerator for SE's ?
