In fact, what I say here may have been generated by a noisy telephone line. ---------------- After all the previous discussion of the renaming of this newsgroup to something else, I now suggest that this newsgroup be renamed net.challenger in loving memory of those seven who met their tragic end this the morning of January 28, 1986. William T. Sykes AT&T Federal Systems Burlington, NC 27215 burl!wts ----------------- /* End various quotes from net.columbia. */ This sounds like an excellent idea to me. But instead of responding to net.columbia, send all responces to net.news.group, since that is where such proposals should be sent. Everyone out there who is interested should respond. Don't take the attitude "Well, someone else will do it, so I don't need to go to the trouble." The chances of this (renaming the group) happening is directly proportional to the number of people who request it. Another strong vote against. It is pointless to dwell on past failures. We are all much better of to aim for future success. Moreover, I feel the whole net would be better off if a) all debate on this topic were suspended for 30 days b) the 'underground'(?) net.challenger were removed. - Amit -- Amit PARGHI St Jerome's College WATERLOO, Ontario N2L 3G3 Canada UUCP: {ihnp4,decvax,allegra,clyde,utzoo}!watmath!watnot!agparghi CSNET: agparghi%watnot@waterloo.CSNET ARPA: agparghi%watnot%waterloo.csnet@csnet-relay.ARPA BITNET: agparghi@WATDCSU.BITNET

> Another "No" vote. > -- > Bob Simpson Likewise. Keep as net.columbia. Let us not be guilty of selective compassion. Over 200 servicemen died while coming home to their families for Christmas. 8 people were killed recently in an explosion in a shopping center in Mississippi. The former volunteered for hazardous duty; the latter did not. Why focus on Challenger people? I am not unfeeling - but there are others who deserve compassion just as much as the Challenger 7. -- The Ice Floe of the Window Wizard {amd,decwrl,sun,idi,cbosgd,ihnp4}!qubix!lab You can't settle the issue until you settle how to settle the issue.
