I have a Mac (I think it is 128k but it might be 512k (it is not a plus...)) which when turned on displays a black screen with a white line down the center. It never goes for the drive. If someone can tell me what is dead I can get parts and fix it. Email me and I will summarize. ->Spike (spike@world.std.com) -- "The World" - Public Access Unix - +1 617-739-9753 24hrs {3,12,24}00bps

This seems to be one of the FAQ:s regarding classic macs.
It is almost certainly some bad solder joints on the video/power supply board.
Open up the mac and remove the plastic/paper protective sheet from the solder
side of the board (it is the up-right standing board), locate the connector
where the cabling from the mother pcb comes in and the fly-back x-former,
re-solder the joints.
Every classic mac I know that is more than a couple old has had its video
die this way. This is something I think Apple should fix for free, it is
clearly a design problem.

Well, my Mac 2048KE (yep) hasn't died yet, although I have had some suspicious activity. I ust haven't felt like going to resolder joints and end up screwing it up enough to kill it. :-) Maybe after putting my SID together, I'll trust myself a little more! -- | _ /| | Robert Minich |Q: Why is the food so lousy, and | \'o.O' | Oklahoma State University |the service so bad?
