After discovering that my Mac II runs at an unconscionably high temperature, I have undertaken the task of boosting the cooling efficiency of my machine. (Some background: I have a Mac II with 8mb, an accelerator, and three NuBus cards, plus an internal hard disk.) I have figured out a solution and implemented it, and I'm willing to perform the same service for other Mac II, IIx, and (possibly) IIfx users. The solution involves replacing the fan in the Mac II power supply with a quieter fan (with similar performance to the original fan), and wiring one or two additional fans in parallel with the internal hard disk power tap. (How many additional fans used depends on the internal layout of the machine; the two-fan solution involves mounting the second fan on the hard drive platform, which won't work with a 5.25-inch internal drive.) If anyone is interested in having this done, drop me mail. This might work best in the greater Boston area, since you can carry in your machine and watch me do it :-), but I'll also be happy to do the work if you ship the machine and enclose the return shipping cost (insured, of course).
