I just had the power supply replaced (yet again) on my Mac+. The dealer wants $145.50 for the board and $60 labor. It's been a couple of years since the last time, and my memory isn't all that great, but this seems to be about twice as much as I remember. So, to anyone who has replaced a power supply lately: - Is this a typical (not reasonable, just typical) current price for a Mac+ power supply? What did you pay? - How much labor should the board swap require? Is there a "blue book" kind of thing for this? And for anybody: - If these charges are unreasonable, what is the official complaint channel? Please e-mail me, and I will summarize to the net. And PLEASE let's not get into a discussion of the (legendary) failings of the Mac power supply; the net isn't designed for that much traffic... Quick responses preferred; I have to go pick it up. And thanks in advance to anyone who replies. -- Dave Matuszek (dave@prc.unisys.com) -- Unisys Corp. / Paoli Research Center / PO Box 517 / Paoli PA 19301 -- Any resemblance between my opinions and those of my employer is improbable. < You can put a mouse on an IBM. Back in March I had my supply replaced. Apple had just stopped giving credit for the old supplies. The technician I talked to said he'd give me the credit anyway _if I bought one year of AppleCare_($12/mo = $144). I gave him my "hard life" story and he charged me $15 for labor. I don't remember the exact cost, but mine was at least $220. My Mac+ was working fine, but in the past 5 weeks my screen developed the jitters again, the power supply will often times "whine" (real high- pitched sound), and my screen is twisted. Now that I have AppleCare, I'll get the supply and the screen replaced for "free". Brent Burton n138ct@tamuts.tamu.edu
