[comp.sys.mac.hardware] Warner's "The Magic Flute"

oster@well.sf.ca.us (David Phillip Oster) (07/18/90)

The best Macinotsh program I have seen this year is "The Magic Flute"
from Warner New Media. This is a $55.00 3-CD-ROM set that is a complete
audio recording of Mozart's the Magic Flute, with 15M of hypercard stack,
CD-graphics (if yo have an appropriate player) and MIDI versions of the
major themes, and, if you have an appropriate Pioneer laser disk player,
it will sync, Bergman;s movie version of "The Magic Flute" to the audio.

While the audio is playing you get a synchronized track of your choice of:
English translation of the opera,
German text of the opera
Play-by-play analysis of the story
Measure-by-Measure analysis of the music.

Most frames have 4 footnotes, that lead you to a wealth of additional
material (such as a digitized version of the origianl playbill from 1791)
Some of the footnotes are audio (my favorite is the absolute worst
performance every recorded of the Queen of the Night Aria.)

There are three separate "Opera Quiz"s to see how well you listened.
it is just incredibly rich. You could dive into it and not come up for days.

The art that accompanies the thing is great.

This thing is terrific. If you have a CD-ROM player, and you can spare,.
even temporarily, 14M of hard disk space (it will limp along in 5M of spcae
if you are cramped) then BUY THIS!

I don't know what kind of crazy man authorized this: a truly incredible
product, for almost no market. I mean, how many people have a mac with
a CD-ROM drive? so, buy it now before they figure out what a mistake they are
making and take it off the market.
