[comp.sys.mac.hardware] Booting problems

macman@wpi.wpi.edu (Chris Silverberg) (07/26/90)

Recently I posted a request for Rodime drivers. Well, i now have a couple
driver programs, and I *think* I have this very old Rodime set up correctly.
However, it still doesn't work completely.

Running System 6.0.3-5, the system boots up, displays the "Welcome" screen,
and then the drive locks up and requires resetting. This happens every time
with this Mac Plus I am using.

I have tested the drive on other Pluses, and I get the same results. I have
also tested it on my own Mac SE with an internal hard drive. But with my
SE, it books PERFECTLY.

The two big things to check between the different setups are termination, and
interleave. I checked a manual, and saw that the termination was the same
for both the Plus without an internal drive, and my SE with an internal
hard drive. However, to be sure, i've tried booting with an without
termination, and the same results are yielded. As for interleave, the
formatting software asks me for the type of computer being used. (ie, i select
the Plus.) It does not ask me for a specific interleave, so I am assuming
that this software is setting it correctly.

So why wont this old Rodime drive boot off a Plus, when it works perfectly
fine on an SE??

Any help, is gladly appreciated. Thanks!
