Has anyone had any luck getting a NEC CDR-35 CD-Rom drive to work with a IIci? We got one of these and have had no luck; when the CDR35 is connected and turned off the machine boots, but then the CD-Rom drive cannot be mounted. If the CDR35 is turned on when the machine boots, the machine hangs at the point where it tries to mount the internal hard drive (the drive light stays on as if both the hard disk and CDR35 are fighting for the SCSI bus). I've also tried three different SCSI cables, SCSI cables both with and without a terminator, and two different copies of the CD-Rom software (both 2.0 and 2.10e). And yes, I've tried to boot without any INITs (except for the ones provided by the CD-Rom software). The results are the same. This thing does work with an SE, but that is not the machine we want to use it on. Unfortunately we bought this thing about a week before the spate of articles on how troublesome it is. If only we'd known... Robert P. Eby UUCP: att!pegasus!eby AT&T Bell Laboratories Domain: eby@pegasus.ATT.COM
