>>> Maybe we should rename the news-group net.challenger, in memoriam? >> Your grief is understood and shared by all. But if (IF) the group is to be >> renamed, it may as well be net.space.shuttle. > Bad idea of the week award. > Cast my "yea" vote for net.challenger I am casting my vote AGAINST renaming this group, for the following reason: Now, a week after the Challenger died and seven pioneers died with it, I am still depressed when I think about the incident. I would much rather be reminded of the elation I felt when the first shuttle got into space and then returned safely, than be reminded of and depressed by the Challenger's death. Yes, offer up your prayers for the dead heros and eulogize them and remember their bravery in your hearts. Let them sleep, and let us remember the pride we feel in the accomplishments of ALL our space pioneers. If someone feels that the newsgroup simply cannot continue to exist without being renamed, I would then propose a name more like net.to.the.stars, or net.man.in.space, net.space.exploration to embody the reason that many of us subscribe to this group -- a desire to look out beyond the narrow confines of our humble planet. I agree in that I am against renaming the group, but the new name must in some way convey to the newcomer that this group is for discussions of the space shuttle only. The front-runner new name is still, from what I have seen, net.space.shuttle; if indeed the group is to be renamed at all. -- The MAD Programmer -- 919-228-3313 (Cornet 291) alias: Curtis Jackson ...![ ihnp4 ulysses cbosgd mgnetp ]!burl!rcj ...![ ihnp4 cbosgd akgua masscomp ]!clyde!rcj
