I love our neat little SyQuest drive, and when it isn't being used by my colleagues for backing up, it makes a handy overflow area for my cramped 40-meg hard disk (^v^). But I have been noticing an odd problem. Namely, if I have a cartridge loaded and spun up at boot time, so that the Mac loads the driver automatically, I get occasional crashes. The error is always ID 99 (bad PTCH resource), and it happens at an early stage in the boot process--after loading MacsBug, and before the march of the startup icons. I got the crash once when booting off a floppy. The disk didn't have MacsBug on it, so I got the full message about how the System file may be damaged, and you can use Installer to repair it, with a Restart button. It booted OK on the second try. I'm running a vintage Mac II with System 6.0.5. I'm pretty sure none of my INITs is causing the problem, if only because of the crash from the floppy. I never have any problems if I use the installer utility to mount a cartridge manually after boot up. The program is called "CRU Installer" (I don't know if this is the same one that comes with all SyQuest drives). Any ideas? Anybody else had this problem?
