dkletter@adobe.COM (Akbar & Jeff's SUPPORT GROUP for the vaguely dissatisfied) (08/01/90)
this week's MacLeek claims that Apple is deserting it's IIcx model and will be trying to bolster sales in the IIci by drastically dropping prices. it seems that the cx has been deemed the "odd one out" according to the article. well, this leaves me with a lot of questions, seeing as i bought a cx for my own use at home. i bought it for a few reasons. the ci was new and there were supposed applications-compatibility problems. it was also cheaper and still a fast little machine. since the time i bought it, i've seen things like new video cards and the fx. all of which have features i am going to be interested in because i use my cx for graphics and video artwork. my questions are: * will i be given the opportunity as a registered owner to upgrade my cx to a ci CPU or maybe even an fx (or is that asking too much)? * what happens to support for my machine? i have the 1yr warranty, but that will probably be up in a few months. i'm very happy with my machine, but i don't want to be left in the dust because my machine has been discontinued. what will Apple be doing for folk like me? * the article also claims that all compatibility problems with the ci have been fixed, but then later on they say that Apple is going to be telling application developers that their applications must be 32-bit clean. doesn't sound like the "problem" has been fixed. what's the actual truthful scoop on this? * lastly, if there are compatibility problems, do people have lists of what commercial and shareware type applications/inits/DAs and such that aren't compatible? i'm given the impression by the article that it would be to my benefit to have a ci, but if say i decide to try to upgrade or whatever, i want it to be worth the effort. i use mostly artistic commercial software at home, but i have a ton of non-commercial utilities/inits and such. if i can't use them, it would seem that i'm better off with my cx maybe? any information or reccomendations would be great. you can post answers or reply directly to me. thanks.--dan (dkletter@adobe.com or yol@darkside.com) -- "Yellow... black and rectangular... with wedged shapes inside...
