Further thought: Tragic though ALL seven deaths were, the teacher, the
civilian, Christa McAuliffe, whom all the children were watching,
has stuck the hearts of the nation as the most tragic of all.
May I suggest that a new shuttle, once built, be named
the Space Shuttle McAuliffe.

Why not the Scobee... or the Smith... or the Onizuka... or
Resnik, McNair, or Jarvis. To single out McAuliffe seems to
me to be supporting the attitude expressed by John Glenn,
that astronauts are different from civilians, (Because they're
paid for taking chances? I don't know!) and thus civilians
have no business being in space. Poppycock.

Surely you don't mean to cause Christa McAuliffe's parents any additional
grief by naming a working Shuttle after their daughter who died in an
accident? Besides, I hardly think they would approve of such a thing, in
any case. Consider the reminders your suggestion would hold .....

If your going to rename the shuttle after the accident why not
use something like Challenger 7. Don't single out anyone. Remember
	all, for all were lost.

Sounds good to me! We could use all of them. The Shuttle fleet would
certainly be up to strength.

Why not remember them all by naming it "CHALLENGER II"?

Give-um hell Berry! I couldnt have said it better.

And lets name this group net.shuttle (Better yet - dont mess with the name!
I dont want to recall a failure every
time I read the net to learn about the
				      achievments of the shuttle program,
rather to see the header named for
				      its founding flier.)

And lets fix the SRB's

And lets launch as soon as the fix is in place

And lets support the NASA

And lets sell shuttles commercially

And so on....
