[comp.sys.mac.hardware] NTSC apple video driver

jsurine@entec.Wichita.NCR.COM (James Surine) (08/02/90)

I have a mac IIci and could REALLY use NTSC output. Apple released an
unsuported INIT that installed a driver into the apple video card but
the version I have does not support the IIci's built in vidio card.
Does anyone have an updated or patched INIT that works on the IIci?
I don't really want to spend a couple grand getting a NuBus card for this
since I don't think I would use it enough to justify the cost.
(Yes, I have checked around town and no one has a system with this capability
although I could use someones mac II with an ordinary video card with the
INIT but I don't think I would get enough speed).

I am in much the same boat, and would love to hear of a solution,
as I _really_ don't want to tell my boss that we need to buy an expensive
video card just to output to a large-screen/videotape.

Well, I just talked to COVID, cause we output to a large screen using
their model 700. What they told me though, might not help you. The
scan rate of a ci (we are using the internal vidio) isn't decreased by
their device, it just gives up red/green/blue/sync or mono from the
input right out of the card (it is pass thru so the ci's monitor still
works). So if you have multiscan it might help. The list the person
at COVID (1-800-638-6104) gave me is $550 which seems high anyway. A
local dealer quoted me: $525.
This is not a big savings over a card is it though?
And anyway, they said that it wouldn't work with VCRs.
