[comp.sys.mac.hardware] Parity SIMMs in a MacPlus

MICHAEL.SOPER@OFFICE.WANG.COM (Michael Soper) (08/09/90)

I'm interested in using parity (9 chip) 1 meg SIMMs in a MacPlus. Is there
any known problem with this? My experience so far: I've tried a 4 meg
configuration using both 120ns and 80ns SIMMs (shouldn't be any difference
really). I clip R8 resistor according to Apple Technical Note #176.
I power-up the machine and the screen is blank for an unusual period of time
before searching for the boot drive (RAM diagnostics on 4X the memory I
presume). Boot successful. But applications bomb almost immediately with
a variety of IDs. Not a single application will run, like memory is unstable
or something.

Is any other modification needed on the logic board to accommodate the extra
chip in each SIMM? I've made sure the same speed are used in all banks.
(My apology to those of you who got cross-postings from comp.sys.mac.prog).
