I find it very odd that there is objection to helping the children of the Challenger 7 financially. If a firefighter dies in a blaze, a fund for his survivors is created almost immediately. The same is true if a police officer falls in the line of duty. Those of us who are contributing to the fund for the shuttle crew's children aren't trying to replace a parent. We are trying ( in an inadequate way ) to honor the astronauts' courage and sacrifice by helping their offspring through the financial vagueries of life.
