I have what must be high on the list of most asked questions: What color monitor should I get for a Mac? I will collect any answers and the ideas you have and post a summary if anyone is interested. Since any one computer store hardly ever stocks more than one or two kinds, it is hard to compare one monitor to the others on the market. The monitor will be used on the built in video on a IIci. It should be very sharp and clearly focused. The Apple monitor looks nice, but it is expensive. If I can find one that is a little bit larger, say 15 or 16 inches and just as clear but cheaper, that would be perfect. For my money I am more interested in a clear picture, accurate colors, low flicker, and high dots per inch/small dot pitch than in things like screen size and brightness. I guess what I am trying to say is that I am looking for a clear cheap monitor, but I don't mind it being small and dim if that keeps the price down. If it can adapt to higher resolution if I should get a 24 bit card, that is a big plus. I understand you need a multi-sync monitor in order to have it work at different resolutions. Is this true? Also, I have never seen a multi-sync type monitor used on a Mac. Is the picture quality as good as with a monitor like the Apple? In shopping around for monitors, I wasn't very impressed with the Radius 19" I saw on display. It seemed a bit fuzzy and out of focus. Do you have answers to any of the following questions? 1) What make and model is the Apple color monitor? It looks like a Sony Trinitron, is it? What model? 2) Given the constraints above, are there any other obvious choices? 3) What should I expect to pay for a very good quality small color monitor for a Mac? What is a good reputable mail order company to buy one from? 4) Are Multi-sync type monitors sharp and clear enough for 24 bit 3D graphics and color photo type work if I get a card later?
