I have a question for people out there who have had the infamous quantum drive problem and have gotten the prom replacement. Now that you have had it for sometime (some I recall were last fall) how has it worked? Any problems? Reason for asking is that my 10 month old SE/30 died with the stiction problem. From the noise I thought the heads had crashed. The prom was replaced for free and the drive seemed to work ok for awhile. I was backing up the drive and I got some bad corrupted files. Then the finder locked up, and I could not get it totally to reboot, got to Welcome Screen and no furthur. I used norton and found no files bad, but when I tried to optimize the drive (all this after booting with a floppy instead) Norton told me my system was open or some such thing. I reinstalled the system and everything now works fine, although since the problem with the "open" system and the crash while backing up I now notice a slow down in access to things off the hard drive. This is as noticed by others over a year ago. My question is then, for you has this fix worked or have problems cropped up later so that the drive had to be replaced. I am just curious seeing as I got one of these and have now had the fix I wonder if it will work or if a swap will be needed to overcome the lubricant. I notice that not much is said now of this problem. So it seems that by in large we may have passed by this problem except for me who finally got hit by it. I was merely wondering if I have any more trouble to look forward too, or if this fix will solve my trouble.
