Extactly what do I need to do to upgrade a 1Mb SE (4x256Ksimms) to 4Mb using 4x1Mb Simms. Is it okay to use 9-bit simms? (that's what I have!) Is it necessary to hold any pins hi/lo? I would like to retain the ninth bit in case I move the simms to a PC. Are there any tricks involved in removing/replacing the main board, I remember having to bend the board to get it back when I opened the Mac to have a look. -- Neil Faulks ..!ukc!kcl-cs!neil neil%cs.kcl.ac.uk

To extract the PC board from the chassis, after you disconnect the floppy/SCSI cables and the power cable, GENTLY slide the board back about an inch or so. Look carefully at the bottom of the board and the chassis it slides into. You will see some notches cut into the board, so that one edge will fall clear of the chassis. The other edge has no notches. After the board is clear of the chassis, remember to disconnect the little 2-pin fan connector. Good luck... --clark -- ----------------------------------------------------------- Clark Anderson InterNet: anderson@apple.com PCB Software Tools AppleLink: C.ANDERSON Apple Computer, Inc BellNet: 408-974-4593 "I speak only for myself, much to my employer's relief..." -----------------------------------------------------------
