[comp.sys.mac.hardware] Tape backups for both Mac and IBM

BBOLT@vm.ucs.UAlberta.CA (Bob Bolt) (08/21/90)

We are looking at tape backup solutions for our mixed Macintosh and IBM
environment. This tape backup must be at least 150 megabytes per tape and
must have a SCSI interface. By installing SCSI boards in the IBM machines,
we can take a single backup unit to each computer, plug it in and backup
the drive. The Mac software must be able to perform AppleShare backups
and the PC software must handle Novell Netware backups.

We are considering the Tecmar 250es system. This is a Teac 150 meg unit
that will store up to 250 megs on an extended length tape. I have also
heard that Maynard Electronics also have a similar system. Has anyone
had any experience (good or bad) with these or any other similar system?
I would appreciate any replies on performance, software and support.
I will summerize for the net if their are enough replies. Thanks.
