[net.columbia] What you can do to help the space program.

dls@mtgzz.UUCP (d.l.skran) (02/12/86)

In the wake of the Challenger disaster, many of
you have expressed a desire to support the space program.
Some have even expressed interest in joining the
L5 Society.

All I can say is this: NOW MORE THAN EVER.
If you don't understand how tight NASA already is, read
your newspaper. And it'll get tighter the way things are going.

Some have mentioned that they didn't like L5 because they
didn't like it's policies or leadership.
I can only suggest that until you join, those policies and
leaders are unlikely to change.

I further point out that unless a lot(and I mean A LOT) more
people join L5 or similar groups, we are not going to have
very much impact on anything. We(L5) are simply too small
to have any REAL political meaning. Yes, we fuss and fight,
and we do have some impact, but nothing like that we would have
with, say 50,000 or 100,000 members instead of 7,000.

So write your Congressperson. NOW. Support the space station
and the space program. ETC.

Consider joining L5. The money 30$(regular) or 15$(student) is a drop
in the bucket going to buy a new shuttle. Going to L5 it'll
translate about as directly as you can get in the real world
to support for space.

Of course, buying the stamp for the letter to your Congressperson
translates even more directly.

So, here is the address
