The other day I rewound my VCR tape to view the news items on the Challenger. I had recorded the items on the back of a series of documentaries. I rewound the tape past the end of the last documentary which was a segment of the _Remember When_ series hosted by Dick Cavett called "Wings Wheels and Things". The show was about our (human) desire to get there from here including boats, cars, trains, airplanes, etc. The closing scene, which is where I rewound to, was the mission control center in Houston. Cavett was talking about the space shuttle and how in the future a space flight will become as common as jet travel is now. He then made an eerie prophetic statement: (may not be the exact words) "But it will come at a price. No doubt there lurks future versions of the Titanic and Hindenberg. We will pay the price, we always have and we always will. For we are a species who cannot be told 'You can't get there from here.'" The next scene on my tape is of the Challenger blowing up.
