[comp.sys.mac.hardware] Broken down hard drive

mn5@cunixd.cc.columbia.edu (Mary Ng) (09/23/90)

Hi all,

I have a problem with my hard drive. I'm using a Mac Plus with 2.5
megs and an Apple Crate 65mb hard drive. Usually, I turn on the hard drive and then the computer. Here's my procedure:

	1. Turn on the hard drive.
	2. Wait for it to come up to speed.
	3. After I hear it come up to speed, I turn on the computer.
	4. Everything is fine and dandy and I can work.

Now, though, my problem is that it _doesn't_ come up to speed.
Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't. When it does, after a
little while, it may power down again. This is really bizarre and
very frightening since I haven't backed up my data recently enough.
(Last time was a month ago.)

If anyone could help me with suggestions, solutions, names of
reputable people who might be able to fix the hard drive if need be,
etc.

Thanks in advance.
