I just picked up my new SE/30 yesterday, and sat it atop an American Power Conversion UPS110SE uninterruptible power supply, which I purchased for the computer because the power in my office is quite "dirty. (System config: SE/30 with 1Mb RAM; HD and memory to be installed next week. Nothing in slot yet.) I'm noticing something not mentioned in the UPS manual during the startup sequence, and I'm hoping someone out there can tell me if it's normal or abnormal. What happens is: when I turn on the computer, the UPS "output ready light" comes on, which is good. However, the "input power fault light" also comes on, and the UPS beeps four times, as it would for a power loss. Then, the fault light goes off, and the UPS behaves as it would in normal conditions from then on. Is this normal? I'm wondering if the draw of the computer on the power temporarily lowers the line voltage/current enough to trigger the UPS protection circuitry or something like that. Alternatively, the UPS could be flaky. Please email; I'll summarize.
