I posted a message a while back about how my Mac IIcx wouldn't turn on with either the keyboard or power switch after being shut off overnight. To get the machine to turn on, I had to unplug the machine for 10 or 15 seconds. It turns out that some other Mac IIcx and IIci owners have this problem too. Someone also sent me an excerpt from Tidbits that said the problem was caused by a defect in some of the power supplies. This has been confirmed. About or week or two ago, a guy from Apple Tech Support called me about the message I posted. He wanted to get a hold of the power supply so Apple could look at it. He also said I could go to an Apple dealer and get my power supply exchanged for free (my machine is about 2 years old). After some minor hassles with 2 Apple dealers, I finally got my power supply exchanged by a third dealer. Now my Mac works perfectly! I'm telling you my story for those of you who might have the same problem. I'm not sure how you can get your power supply replaced for free but I suspect there is some way. Apple definitely knows about the defect and it sounds like they are trying to arrange some kind of exchange program. As for me, I thank the power of the net! +++ Lloyd Lim Internet: lim@iris.ucdavis.edu (128.120.57.20) Compuserve: 72647,660 US Mail: 146 Lysle Leach Hall, U.C. Davis, Davis, CA 95616
