Here's a quickie. How many slots are there on the Mac SE for memory chips? How many are used in the shipped configuration? Thanks in advance.

Four. >How many are used in the shipped configuration? Two or four. The standard [original] SE is shipped with four 256K SIMMs in place, giving a total of 1 megabyte of RAM. The SE 2/40 is shipped with 2 1-meg SIMMs in place, giving a total of 2 megabytes of RAM. The SIMMs must be replaced in pairs, so the possible memory configurations in an SE are: 256 256 --- --- = 512K RAM 256 256 256 256 = 1024K RAM 1024 1024 --- --- = 2048K RAM 1024 1024 256 256 = 2560K RAM 1024 1024 1024 1024 = 4096K RAM Which are, top to bottom, 1/2, 1, 2, 2.5, and 4 megabytes. Does that over-answer your question? >Thanks in advance. You're welcome. chaz -- -- "I Am The Reincarnation of Abraham Lincoln", Insists Prince. -spew clarson@ux.acs.umn.edu AOL:Crowbone

Thus, you must install SIMMs in pairs when using an SE. The possible memory configurations are: RAM (in KB) Row 1 Row 2 ============= ======= ======= 512 2x256K --- 1024 2x256K 2x256K 2048 2x1024K --- 2560 2x1024K 2x256K 4096 2x1024K 2x1024K Hope this helps.
