[comp.sys.mac.hardware] Jasmine Troubles...

jay@argosy.UUCP (Jay O'Conor) (10/02/90)

On July 24th, I returned my Jasmine DD100 to Jasmine for repair under
warranty. At that time, I was promised that the drive would be repaired
within 2 months. It is now over two months later. Now I'm told that it
will be 4 to 6 weeks more. Major :-(
Back in July, I was encouraged by Jasmine's behaviour. They had just
come out of Chapter 11, and their admission that it could take as long
as 2 months to repair my drive seemed to indicate that they were trying
to deal honestly with their problems.
I posted an article here at that time indicating my optimism.
Now it's time to retract that.
Until now, I would have considered dealing with Jasmine again (pending
the repair of my drive, of course). Now, as a result of their inability
to meet their own commitment, I'll never have anything to do with
Jasmine again.
I deeply regret this. I want Jasmine to succeed. I feel good about
supporting companies that make the investment in knowing the Mac, rather
than just going for the (admitedly easier) IBM and clone market.
Despite this, I wont do business with companies that do not meet their
obligations to me. I believe that I was very understanding of their
situation when I accepted their two month repair time. I doubt there
are many people out there that would be understanding enough to go
without their drive for 2 months.
Oh well, live and learn. Jasmine is still Jasmine - and that means (to
me anyway) that they can't be believed when they tell you something.
Hopefully there are others out there who will be forewarned by my
experience.
