[comp.sys.mac.hardware] SE/30 problem w/modem

a544@mindlink.UUCP (Rick McCormack) (10/04/90)

Lee spector, <26844@mimsy.umd.edu> writes of a problem with modems on his SE30,
and says "I know that the
ports aren't totally fried because we use them for MIDI communication and
also with an audio digitizer all the time." I suspect this is the source of
the problem. Try one of the little (very small -- 150 bytes typical) serial
port zappers, to reset the ports after MIDI use. Many MIDI programs leave the
ports in horrible shape, notes laying around in the bottom of the port, etc.
:-) We had the problem in the lab on everything from Plus's thru ci's, and the
program SPCONFIG_RESET (for instance, there are others) clears it all up.

Are there any known bizarrities about the SE/30's modem (and printer) ports?
I've been trying to use a modem with my friend's SE/30, and it hasn't
worked at all (no dialing, etc.). I tried 2 modems, both of which work
fine with my IIcx, and I tried both Zterm and Hypercard. I know that the
ports aren't totally fried because we use them for MIDI communication and
also with an audio digitizer all the time. Thanks for any pointers...
