We have a 2 floppy SE (not superdrives) that is ailing. The bottom drive appears to have been damaged (public access) and the machine keeps saying "This disk is unreadable..." even though there is no disk in it. If you click on the Cancel button, it tries to eject the nonexistent disk and the cycle continues. The local Apple dealer wants $230 + tax to replace it with a new one. We are reasonable handy although not technically astute. What other options do we have? Could we replace the bottom drive ourdelves? Can we get a nonApple (cheaper) internal? Can we get a superDrive compatible internal? Can we connect an external & get the computer to ignore the bad internal? Best case senario: can we bend something back to fix the drive? -- Jeff Ersoff Math & Computer Sci., Salem College, Winston-Salem, NC 27108 USENET: jae@ecsvax
