We bought 32 Mb memory for our Mac fx (4Mb SIMMs), and put them into the fx, but nothing happened except the sad sad melody. We changed all SIMMs, tried different permutations, had some success with 16 Mb but nether with the full 32 Mb. Does anybody know something about switches or similar stuff for to make the memory known to the Mac or are there any tricks or super special memory chips? Our dealer assured us that we have the right chips for the Mac fx. The IIfx, unlike the IIci, must have larger simms in one specific bank (I believe bank A, but I don't remember). However, that's not your problem. It sounds to me like your simms might be bad. I've seen a lot of bad 4MB simms for the IIfx- they were being made just a hair too thick or thin, and weren't making good connections. Another possibility is that you're not lining them up properly. Unlike the standard Mac simms, the IIfx simms are very easy to misalign. Use a bright light to make sure that the contacts line up correctly.
