I have recently enquired about the cost of upgrading the floppy disc drive in my MAC II to FDHD, and find that the cost is over 400 pounds sterling. As an alternative, I have thought of purchasing a MAC Classic at 595 pounds and exchange the exchange the disc controller chips and drives, and then sell the MAC Classic at a reduced price (say 395 pounds). A saving to me of around 200 pounds. Can anyone tell me if the controller chips are compatible, and therefor technically feasible. Perhaps as an alternative, it is about time Apple brought down the cost of its upgrade. It is ridiculous that the cost of the upgrade is more than two-thirds the cost of a machine.
