[comp.sys.mac.hardware] Disk inserting Bombs my system

rcbalc@rw7.urc.tue.nl (Luc Cluitmans) (10/22/90)

Hi Netlanders,

I'm having some weird problems with my Mac plus. When I use multifinder
and I insert a floppy after I ran a program (any program does, but the
error doesn't occur immediately after startup) I get an error (falling
into MacsBug).

System information: Mac plus with 4 M RAM, Cutting Edge Harddisk 60M,
tried it using system 6.0.3, 6.0.4 and 6.0.5, tried it without any
INIT's (Normally I use SAM intercept, ATM 2.0, Typealign, SuitcaseII
DFaultD, SFInit, On Que and Afterdark). I don't know the exact ROM
version of my Mac but I bought it in December 1989. Of course I ran
the most recent Virusdetectors on my system (using singlefinder) and
they told me there aren't any virusses in my system.

The problems disappears when using singlefinder. As far as I remember
it started after connecting the harddisk to my Mac. Yesterday I
reformatted my HD with unimac's storware. There was a difference:
There was now a adress error in high RAM (or was it ROM ?; I forgot the
exact adress.) instead of
the illegal instruction error in low RAM I got when I used the
original Cutting Edge format. B.t.w.: I know that low adress belonged
to the driver of the SCSI harddisk, because some bytes near the address
where the error occurred contained the text "HDDriver 2.0", ergo
the CE driver software.

Has anybody in netland had some similar experiences, or does anybody
know what can be the problem?

thanks in advance,
        Luc.
