[comp.sys.mac.hardware] MS-DOS compatible applications on the Mac Classic

badri@sdl.scs.com (Badri Lokanathan) (10/31/90)

I am interested in buying a Mac Classic with 2M RAM and 40M hard drive.

My wife needs the capability to work on a MS-DOS compatible Word
Processor (either Microsoft Word 4.0 or WordPerfect 1.0.5) since she
has greater access to PC's at work. She would prefer working with
5.25" diskettes but can manage with 3.5". As you may have already
guessed, I only have access to Macs at work!

I would appreciate comments on the feasibility/efficacy of the
following schemes with the Classic. I know that they would all work on
Mac SE/30 or Mac II.

(1) DaynaFILE external disk drive: expensive but perhaps the most
convenient since we can work directly on 5.25" disks (or can we?)
Do we also need to buy the Dayna Translation Software?

(2) Use MacLink Plus/PC 4.5 to translate between MS-DOS and Mac. Is it
possible to write out 3.5" DOS disks on the FDHD drive with this
    package?

(3) Use DOS Mounter (this probably will not work since it requires the
SE/30, IIx or IIcx.) Is there another package that works on the Classic?
