I'll be calling Farallon and Sophisticated Circuits today with this same question, but I have my doubts as to whether they'll know the answer, so... A client manages a national chain of restaurants. Each location has a Mac SE running custom SmartCom and Excel stuff to make up daily reports and the like. Every machine across the country is equipped with a modem and Timbuktu Remote. The national guy wants constant access via Timbuktu to these machines; he wants to be able to call at any time of the day or night and log in. Presently, their solution is to leave all the machine on all the time. This has been of mixed success; sometimes the managers forget and turn the machines off, etc. Also, noone is too thrilled about leaving these hard drives whirring constantly. Now, after that, my actual question. Farallon markets a cable which will power a Mac II up when it's modem picks up the phone. Could I use Sophisticated Circuits' PowerKey in conjunction with this cable in order to do the same thing for these SEs? please e-mail. I am under the impression (as given by a Sophisticated Circuits
representative at the Boston MacWorld Expo) that S.C. will be coming
out with such a cable... Supposedly in the near future. Check with
them. (This is one of the reasons, albeit not a major one, that I
purchased the PowerKey.)
