As some of you may remember, I swapped-out the puny 40meg 1/3 height HD of a IIsi for a larger 105meg Quantum 1/2 height mechanism. No apparent problems, it continues to work fine. Today, I finally got my hands on the rarest thing on earth (or so Mac the Knife from Mac Leak claims), the IIsi NuBus adaptor board. The fit of the adaptor isn't that great, you practically break the HD power connector (on the motherboard) when trying to install it. Now, this installation was complicated by the fact that the Emac Speedlink II Ethernet board I was installing is as big as they get. If you have ever seen an open IIsi, the board is put in sideways (like an IBM model 30) and extends towards the front, OVER the hard disk. Now, there's PLENTY of room when the factory Conner drive is installed, but the Quantum's height causes one of the components on the Ethernet board to touch the Quantum's metal top (no shorts though). There you have it, a curved NuBus board that seems to work! I am not totally convinced as to the safety of the whole procedure. I transfered about 20 megs of software from this IIsi to my Ethernet-equipped SE/30 (with Timbuktu 3.1). Some of the transfered software bombed for no apparent reason. I re-transfered some of the apps, and this seems to have solved the problem for the most part. Could the Quantum's voice coil be causing random garbage to be sent in an undetected fashion to my Mac ???? -- +----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | Pascal Gosselin | Internet: Pascal@cam.org Applelink: CDA0585 | | Gest-Mac Inc.
