[comp.sys.mac.hardware] Uprading an SE with a 68030 board

prodigy@quiche.cs.mcgill.ca (Chris ALPAUGH) (11/11/90)

Seeing how Apple instaneously devalued my SE by half, I guess its time
to start thinking about upgrading it, instead of selling it. Wouldn't
you know it, just as I get the money to sell and upgrade to the SE/30
the price bottoms out. Sigh..anyway, a few accelerator questions for
all you hardware gurus:

 1) What are the best deals in 25 MzH 68030 boards for the SE?
 2) Does anybody have any experience with either the Total Systems Gemini
series of boards, or the MacProducts Railgun series (i know, MacP USA
has a poor rep. but any advice is usefull)
 3) Do any of the cheaper models (under $1200) come with an accelerated
    scsi port?

Any info would be highly appreciated. Please reply by e-mail. If I get
enough responses, i can summarize and post.

thanks in advance,

I called Gemini and was neither impressed or satisfied with their product
(on paper) or their sales or technical support phone service.
I bought the railgun. There was a 6 wk wait quoted, and the delivered to
the day. That was supposed to be all caught up by mid-nov, for the plus, and
by years end for the se. Don't know how they are actually doing....
The directions seem clear, and board looks well built. For the plus they
highly recommend using a fan. They included a blerb that they have a unit
coming out for the older systems, 512E, 512, 128. They also have a optional
scsi port for the accelerator coming out.
