[comp.sys.mac.hardware] Mac to "normal" postscript conversi

gillies@m.cs.uiuc.edu (11/18/90)

If you want to understand what you're doing, read the files on
sumex-aim.stanford.edu :

info-mac/tips/generating-postscript.txt
	      imagen-postscript.txt

The first file tells you how to hack the dickens out of your
laserwriter dialogue, to make it do practically anything you want.

The second file tells you how to edit a mac laserprep file to take out
the unnecessary bits of postscript that cause problems on your
printer. It's a 5-minute fix, but you can't do it with kluge editors
like vi, since they have a limit on line length (and a 32K lines makes
vi gag).

I have been using the 6.0 printing tools for the last 4 months with
our imagen (i.e. 3rd-party) printers, and a suitably modified laser prep
file. When you solve the problem this way, you become independent of some
bozo updating his postscript kluge tool every six months (like macps or
prepfix or whatever).
