[comp.sys.mac.hardware] IIsi ROMS in SIMM, Wanted: connector to make 800K external

jdsb@coachk.egr.duke.edu (John D. S. Babcock) (11/19/90)

1. I just purchased a Mac IIsi. Upon looking at the motherboard,
I find that I have NO ROMS on the motherboard, and my ROMS
are on the ROM SIMM. Is this common? Has this happened to
others who got a IIsi? Is something wrong with my motherboard
that it could not use soldered ROMS?

2. I now only have one FDHD drive, instead of the two on my SE. I
picked up a friends internal 800K from an upgrade, and I would
like to connect the internal type flat ribbon cable to a DB-19
connector like the external drive port. Does anyone sell such
an adapter? What is the pinout of the flat ribbon cable? Then, I
could make my own since the DB-19 pinout is given in the books.

Any replies or inquires appreciated. I'd prefer Email, but I read notes.
Write to me if you also want the answers.

	<chuckle>

Actually, this is considered by most to be a feature, friend
John. You see, Apple has begun putting their ROMs in SIMMs, with the
promise that future major upgrades in the MacOS (like when they added
HFS) will be attainable by simply trading in your old ROM SIMM for a
new one.

Of course, with all the recent furor about lack of ROM
upgrades being made available to SE/30 owners and such, one might
wonder... Me, I just like to think that Apple is -real- busy with
System 7.0.

	Naaaahhhhh.... <grin>

(Apple folk, read that with -lots- of smileys...)
