A friend has a budget of 2000 UK pounds and is looking to buy a computer. With the type of applications he wants to run a Mac is probably the best buy. He could get a Mac Classic with hard disk for about half his budget, but will obviously need a printer and still have some left over for software. Applications will be a mixture of WP and DTP, with some use of spreadsheets. I suggested looking at the HP Deskjet 500. But I've only ever used Macs with an Apple Laserwriter. How well will the Deskjet work with the Mac? What additional software drivers will he need and where are they available in the UK? Can he just plug in one driver and get it to work with everything? This is obviously a novice question and has probably been done to death in this newsgroup before. To avoid wasting any more bandwidth, please reply by e-mail.
