[comp.sys.mac.hardware] IIcx keyboard madness

yahnke@vms.macc.wisc.edu (Ross Yahnke, MACC) (11/28/90)

This may be a long shot, but has anyone heard of problems with
the IIcx keyboard? My client uses a IIcx w/PageMaker and he regularly
but unpredictably will have the problem where, while using PM, the
keyboard will start translating keypresses into menu commands -- as if
the command key is invisibly being held down.

There are no virii, a freshly installed system in a brand new folder,
(i.e., no squirelly inits), and a fresh PM. (Or so my client sez, he's
describing this all to me over the phone...)

I've advised him to swap keyboards... is anyone savvy with any other
peculiar behavior like this??? - Ross

This has already occured on this group. I had similar problems
with my old extended keyboard. I is a problem with the keyboards and
ADB drivers, not with a particular application. Basically, there are
certain combinations of keys (sorry, do not remember which) that when
pressed simultaneously, or close together in time, will produce
garbage output. The sequences and output are not random, but they do
cause problems.

My solution was to take in my keyboard, tell them it was munged,
give them some example key sequences, hand them my Apple Care, and get
a new keyboard (Extended Mk. II). Works like a charm (99.9% of the
time).
