[comp.sys.mac.hardware] Mac SE hard drive problem -- question

I bought an SE with a 40 MB hard disk just after the Classic came out
(to make a long story short, they were about the same price and I
wanted the option to upgrade to an SE/30 later); 3 days later, the
hard disk had to be replaced.  Now, a month later, looks like the same
thing has to be done again.  Does anyone know if this is a common
problem w/ SEs and/or their hard drives, or did I just get a lemon??
It's *really* annoying...
