I own a Mac II which I purchased a couple years ago and I am interested in upgrading and would like some information on options: My system: simple Mac II, no extras, no Sooooper Drive (or controller), just basic CPU, hard drive, 800k floppy, etc... What I'm looking to do: I want a little more power and zip. My questions are fairly simply: 1) What would I get out of an fx upgrade? Approx costs? 2) I was thinking more along the lines of a 3rd party 030 card/accelerator with perks. What do I need to run system 7? Any comments on Marathon or Daystar (?) boards? Speed, advantages, costs? I don't want to go all the way up to 50Mhz or anything... Just some speed increase (33 or so). 3) I want also to get a 1.4meg floppy. What do I need? Does this only come from Apple, or are their 3rd party possibilities? 4) Oh yeah... this is more like question 2b, but if I use a 3rd party board will I need faster SIMMS? I have 2megs on borad right now and the speeds are >= 100ns (I'm not sure if I have 100 or 120 ns chips), I plan to upgrade to 5megs soon anyway (1meg simm prices are way down!) so... Any information you have to share with me would be greatly appreciated. Mart (darkstar@cscwam.umd.edu) Thanks in advance.

Lots more speed, SuperDrive support, up-to-date ROMs. Cost for
the upgrade is around $4000 list/$3000 educational, but you get
$1800 back for your Mac II motherboard. Then you also have to
buy new SIMMs for it, which I guess you can get for around $40
per Meg.

With the FX upgrade, all you need to do is get the drive itself (no
ROM upgrade necessary). Don't know about the others.

Ditto No comment.
