I have an excellent reason to keep the external drive port: What if your internal drive dies? Mine did, and I was quoted stuff like $150 to fix it, and a turnaround time of a couple of weeks. So I just bought an external drive. It was cheaper than getting the internal drive fixed, and I didn't lose my mac for three weeks. John Feinberg SUNY Buffalo

You can do the same thing by buying an internal drive instead-- or buying an external and removing it from the case. -- Matthew T.
