[comp.sys.mac.hardware] IIci and Nubus questions

long@mcntsh.enet.dec.com (Rich Long) (12/14/90)

I'm trying to decide on a Mac I can grow old with :-), and have been
 seriously considering the IIci.

In flipping through some old Macuser/worlds, I find articles on accelerators
for the various Macintoshes. Conspicuously absent is one for the IIci (apart
from a cache card). Why? Is it not technically feasible? I'm thinking
something along the lines of a 68040 accelerator at some point.

So what goes in a Nubus slot? I'd really like some more serial ports. I
understand there are serial port boards out there; how well do they work with
the existing System and application software? Do most things hardcode the
 modem & printer ports?

Something else I'd like is a second monitor (probably full-page monochrome).
If you have a video board stuck in a slot, but the monitor is not powered up,
I ass-u-me the software ignores it (i.e. if you "zoom" a window, it doesn't
try to fill the second monitor as well as the first)? That probably depends
on the video board, he muses...

how well are monitors of different sizes integrated? Suppose you had a
 configuration positioned like this:

 +-------+
 | |
 | | +-------+
 | | | |
 | | +-------+
 | |
 +-------+

Would "Monitors" allow you to set the relative heights/offsets correctly?

Excuse silly questions, I'm upgrading from an SE! Thanks for the help!
