Thanks to the many who replied to my questions about the best CD ROM drive to purchase. It was unaimous-go for the CD Technologies Porta Drive with the Toshiba drive mechanism. Well I took your advice. Got it yesterday (still waiting for a CD ROM I ordered from Maya) and it was a breeze to install with my SE/30 and external Hard Drive. No problems at all. It recognizes my music CD's just fine, and it now even comes with a player HC stack called CD Player from a company called OMI (Optical Media International). So I was able to play music on my drive to test that all was working fine. The Hypercard program is nice--so now contrary to the March MacUser article purchasers of this CD ROM drive now can play music----and it works well in the background under multifinder!!!! I am impressed with the drive and the documentation. Another new feature mentioned on the box exterior was that the drive now has a RCA preamp jack in the back (in addition to the head phone jack on the front it previously had). The docs do not mention much about this but I assume from the label on the box that I can connect the drive to a nearby Amp now? So CD Technologies seems to be a great company and are constantly improving this already nice product. Again thanks for all the advice. And with my little experience with the drive I think I can add my recommendation to those who told me about it. So if you are looking for a nice CD ROM drive this one is well worth it!!!!!!
