I'd like to post up a question about the future of IIcx,
and would appreciate any opinions from Mac users.
Although there are 3 new models of Mac, I still like
the IIcx's 3 expansion slots. I tried IIci (probably without
Fast cache) in school but didn't feel any significant difference
from IIcx. IIfx is truely fast but too expensive. I am satisfied
with my IIcx but would like to know possibilities of upgrading
or accellerating it. There are three ways I can think of to
increase the performance of my IIcx in the future:
1. Upgrade to IIci by changing the motherboard for
around $1,000. Then, buy a cache ci (around $300)
to make full use of speed of ci. (Anyone have the
experience using cache ci with IIci?)
2. Buy an accelerator (25-50mhz) for $1,500 to $2,500.
But does 50mhz accelerator out-perform IIfx? From
an article in August 1990 issue MacUser about the
acceleration of different Macs, it seems that
no accelerator is better than IIfx. Can anyone
share his/her experience of using any accelerators?
3. Wait for 68040 upgrade in longer future (It probably
would be faster than IIfx!?).
Thanks for sharing your opinions and experiences.
