[comp.sys.mac.hardware] Problems with Fax Modems

friedman@mbcl.rutgers.edu (12/25/90)

I recently purchased a Zoom Technologies modem with Fax which I had upgraded
to 9600 baud capable. The modem portion of this, I am pleased with. I get
good connections with little noise problems.

My problem is the software they provided. Quick Link II with Fax seem to send
FAX's of text, such as MS Word 4.00B as text only. This creates problems as
I use font's other than Chicago, such as Symbol, for my scientific writings.
Also, I sometimes use super/subscripts in my text.

I realize that I could transfer my text docs into a paint/draw program, save
as a PICT or TIFF file (which QLII can handle) and send them that way. That
is just a bit too much of a bother. I tried another program that came with the
Power User's fax modem. This program treats the Fax machine as if it were a
printer. I sent several files from my home to the Fax at work. Every one of
them had terminated after the first page +3 lines. I would get error messages
at home while the fax machine at work would get feed error messages.

Anyone have any Ideas????

I thought it might be a problem with the software/modem receiving/transmitting
the correct page break commands.

Is there an application available which will work with any fax modem for
transmitting faxes (sp??) in any font?

Thanks
