I am planning to purchase an external SCSI drive for my Mac Plus in the next week or so and would like to hear endorsements and/or flames about the current drives on the market available via mail order. I am looking for a 40-60 Meg drive for home use. I have been told that Quantum is the premier choice for the drive mechanism itself but at least 6 manufacturers are offering the quantum mechansm in many different enclosures. Does anyone know which enclosures are better for heat, noise, power reliability, etc? Does any manufactures offer a good selection of software bundled with the drive (Jasmine used too but I am leary to buy from them since Ch. 11 filing.) Please post here or e-mail. I will post a summary if there is any clear concensus in responses. Thanks, Marc Briel

Call Club Mac (714)768-1490 Get the Quantum 40.
I don't have an up to date price, but I think it is $367 for the
external. I've gotten drives from them, and many of my friends.
Very good service, one problem drive was promptly replaced, quiet..
etc. You can't go wrong with them.

Bought two SuperMac DataFrame XP30s from ComputerWare circa two years ago; never any trouble. I leave 'em on day and night. Adequately quiet (I put 'em on a 2-meter extended cable under a table or bookshelf). Can't give price or quality comparisons beyond that.
