firstly, I run a macII, w internal 40M (sticky quantum... ick gotta get it fixed.) external 44m PLI turbo+ drive, and Denon CD Rom. I don't usualy power up the CD rom, which is the end of the scsi chain, and most often have it disconnected, since I think I have a problem. It MUST be terminated, since it has only one connector, the PLI is terminated, and the internal is terminated (I think?). Now the few times that I have powered up the whole chain, everything works fine. so the first question... is there really a problem with running 3 terminators on the chain? how does a terminator work, and what effect would having three have? also, is the terminator on a device permanantly active, or only when the device is power on? (guess that was more than one question...) question two.. does anyone know how w & where to chop the guts of the PLI drive to remove the internal termination. presume enough competence to do most electronics repair/demolition, I just haven't bothered to ever read the SCSI specs, and have no idea how the bus operates. thanx for any info. Here are my two related (barely :) questions: 1) What is this stupid "Bus Error" on my IIsi. It seems to pop up in various programs. It seems that it is a generic name for a wide range of crashes. I got them in Think Pascal 2.0, SoundEdit and other places. 2) When I got my new IIsi, I stole the 4 1 meg SIMMs out of my Plus and replaced them with 256k SIMMs. The computer will boot and all, but the screen doesn't work. I know when you put in the 4 megs, you have to cut a wire or two. My question is, can it be reversed by a lowly little cs undergrad with very little electrical engineering experience? I couldn't tell you how stuped I felt when I powered up my Plus and couldn't figure why it wouldn't update the screen.
