Thanks for all who responded to my question about getting a serial postscript printer to work with a macintosh (or the general question of how to send the print output to the serial port instead of the appletalk port.) I just sent out 6 "tokens of appreciation" to a bunch of people who really don't want them (but it's the principal that counts.) If you didn't get one, you're not missing much, and your response was still appreciated. I couldn't get an address for some of the best responders. Anyway, the general idea is that you can use the "f" or "k" key in the print dialog box to go to a file, then use something like SendPS or any terminal emulation software to send the file out the serial port. Alternately, you can purchase from APDA "Asynchronous Serial LaserWriter driver" for $20, which does everything automatically. One person told me this only works with the Apple LaserWriter and not all Serial PostScript printers, but other people said it works with lots of machines. There are more ways to get the job done, and the very best reference can be found in the file /info-mac/tips/generating-postscript.txt on sumex-aim.stanford.edu. This is a very complete compilation of how to change the Apple so that it will send to the serial port instead of the Apple-talk port. A few people sent me parts of a similar file, but this file from sumex-aim.stanford.edu (through anonymous ftp) had a whole heck of a lot of information. I tried to respond to all of you. A few bounced, so please understand my appreciation (and all the time you saved me by responding.) - Thomas E.
