There are a number of 3d party 14-inch RGB color monitors out there which can be used by the Macintosh line. I have a Sony 1304HG driven via the onboard video card of my IIci. Since the video card puts out 640 by 480 pixels at 72 dpi, I have ALOT of wasted screen area. That is, I am displaying a 13-inch image on a 14-inch display. By toggling a switch and twisting some controls I can enlarge the picture and fill substantially more of the screen. I am still displaying 640 by 480 pixels but now at a lower dpi. This is the way I usually run it and it causes no problems unless I need to WYSIWYG something to a measured size since things will print out smaller than they appear. I believe this monitor can display something like 1024 by 768 pixels. Thats what the IBMers are getting with a super VGA card and this monitor. My question is this; Is there a video card out there that will let me display more pixels on a 14-inch monitor? Is there some software that will reprogram my onboard video card to display more pixels? It seems a shame to waste the realestate. I am looking for both a particular solution and a general answer as people often ask me this sort of question for the other sized monitors.
